There was a feeling of nostalgia, as the first model came walking down the grass clad venue of Gardé Républican. The Alexander Mcqueen fall 2014 collection hit much closer to home, closer to Lee. It was all there; the artistic expressions, the dramatic wilderness, the ”savage beauty” - all the while expressing the sophisticated elements to which Burton has brought to the house.
Praise to mrs. Burton. This season has shown a more playful, more expressive side to Sarah, clearly heading in a different direction than that of spring 2014. Incorporated elements of nature; mossy velvets, bewitching patterns and wild furs went alongside playful constructions and silhouettes.
Her artistic freedom is clearly shown; the innocent elements, from the light broderie anglaise, in juxtaposition to the dark and crude wilderness, from the threatening furs, is a theme not seldom identified with the works of Lee. A significant nod to Mcqueen’s fall 2002 ”Supercallifragilistic” collection, could be found, where the innocence would play a strong part in his demonstration. The models of this collection would go under a form of metamorphose, by the middle of the show, subsequently morphing from innocence to darkness as they would progress. Subtle, yet clearly dramatic
Alexander Mcqueen fall 2014 was a joy to experience, and while I do not expect for Sarah to replace Lee, I do sincerely hope that she will keep going in the same direction.
